Meadow Lake Search and Rescue Looking for Members

Feb 9, 2016 | 6:03 AM

The Meadow Lake and District search and rescue team formed three months ago with three members. Today they have 17 and are looking to expand even more.

Keenan Gill, a founding member of the team, said the local fire department wanted to start a search and rescue initiative but couldn’t. Gill formed the team under the guidance of fire chief Neil Marsh.

“We just took the initiative and started from square one,” Gill said.

Thankfully the team hasn’t been called to any incidents in their first few months.

When called out to an incident the team will provide grid searches in co-operation with the RCMP and will help out in any other ways their training allows.

“(Our training) is provided by SARSAV (Saskatchewan’s Search and Rescue Organization). They’ll provide a lot of the training and it will mostly be all wild land training, wild land first aid, all grid searches and mapping,” Gill said.

With only one meeting so far, training has not yet started.

There are no pre-requisites to join the search and rescue team, besides being over 18.

Currently the search and rescue team meets once a month in the Meadow Lake Fire Hall.
The next meeting scheduled for Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. Any interested parties are invited to attend.

To join, contact Keenan Gill at 306-204-9806 or Chris Gill at 306-204-8907.  Emails are also welcomed at mladsar@gmail.com.
