Stampeders crowned league champions

Mar 30, 2016 | 7:40 PM

The hockey season in Meadow Lake is officially over.

The season ended in dramatic fashion as the midget female Stampeders were crowned league champions with their 2-1 over-time win over the Saskatoon Comets.

The games first goal was scored by Meadow Lake’s Hailey Ross midway through the first period. That goal would stand as the only one until Anica Gauthier tied things up midway through the third. With regulation ending in a 1-1 tie it took almost 13 minutes of over-time before Amy Cantre buried the game winning goal.

After finishing the season in first place the stamps cruised through the playoffs, eventually sweeping Saskatoon and claiming the North Sask ‘A’ Championship.
