New leads in hunt for escaped accused murderer

Apr 6, 2016 | 12:42 PM

Prince Albert Police Service (PAPS) have new leads in the escape of accused murderer Braidy Vermette.

Police say Vermette may be with his girlfriend Tristen Smith. She is currently wanted by PAPS for Breach of Undertaking.

Vermette and Smith have distinct tattoos on their neck of each other’s name.

Police have identified Ricky Favel as a suspect who assisted Vermette’s escape. He is currently wanted on four counts of Breach of Recognizance.

Vermette was taken by two masked men outside Victoria Hospital on March 30 while being transferred for a self-inflicted laceration on his arm.

Police say the cut would require stitches and Vermette would likely be seeking medical attention, if he hasn’t received it already.

Vermette is accused of murdering Troy Napope in 2015, and was in custody on First-Degree Murder charges when he escaped. Vermette is a high-ranking affiliate of the local Tax Set gang.

It’s believed all three suspects have fled Prince Albert, but PAPS ask anyone with knowledge of their whereabouts contact PAPS at 306-953-4222, their local RCMP or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
