City and RM of Meadow Lake issue fire ban

Due to the hot and dry conditions, the City and Rural Municipality of Meadow Lake have issued fire bans effective immediately.

The ban takes effect on April 20 and Fire Chief Neil Marsh said no outdoor burning of any kind, including backyard fire pits, is allowed while the ban is in effect. He added in the municipality, all burning permits are cancelled until the ban is lifted.

The fire ban covers any outdoor flames but the use of propane and charcoal barbecues is still permitted.

Meanwhile the Rural Municipality of Loon Lake and the Rural Municipality of Mervin have also issued fire bans.

According to the Ministry of Environment’s website there have been a total of 22 fires reported as of April 20 in the province. Seventeen have been declared out while there are five left burning in the Buffalo Narrows area, about 246 kilometres north of Meadow Lake. One of the fires is not contained.
