Celebrate M.L. emergency personnel next week

May 18, 2016 | 12:00 PM

The public is invited to learn more about emergency personnel in Meadow Lake with national EMS week.

Following the national police week which started on Sunday, May 15, the RCMP is partnering with local first responders for national EMS week May 22 to 28.

To celebrate, part of Lions Park will be transformed into an obstacle course on Monday, May 23 where the public is invited to test their physical skills against officers in a mock physical abilities requirement evaluation (PARE) test.

The test is standard for every member to complete in under four minutes in order to graduate from Depot.

Const. Andrew Giassa said the course will be set up so all ages can participate and runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Several organizations in town, from search and rescue to MADD and the fire department will have booths set up and will be available for questions. A barbecue will be available on site.

The search and rescue team plans to host a demonstration to locate a missing teddy bear and emergency crews will have a tug-of-war.
