Meadow Lake hosts division track meet

Sunny skies, a light breeze and a 27 degree day made for perfect conditions for the Northwest School Division’s first track and field meet of the season.

Student athletes from Meadow Lake, Dorintosh, Goodsoil, Loon Lake, St. Walburg, Maidstone, Edam, Turteford, Lloydminster and other communities from across the north-west competed yesterday, May 19 in over 10 events. The next competition takes place May 25, with the top three performers in each age group and evnt earning spots at provincials, June 3 and 4.

Some of the highlights include, Carson Stang of Jonas Samson Junior High School’s first-place hat trick sweeping the 400, 1500 m and long jump as a bantam boy while Kira Rathamone, also of Jonas Samson, placed first in hurdles and the 100 m.

Kendrea Zuchotzki from Dorintosh Central School was another standout placing first in the 400 m and long jump, while winning second in the 1500 and 3000 m races.
