Sask. Rush win West Division Finals

May 22, 2016 | 10:24 AM

The Saskatchewan Rush are heading to the National Lacrosse League’s championship final after a 12-9 victory over the visiting Calgary Roughnecks on Saturday night.

It was the largest crowd the SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon has ever seen for a sporting event.

15,192 people packed into the stands to watch the Rush sweep the playoff series 2-0 after winning 16-10 in Calgary last weekend.

They now advance to the Campion’s Cup Finals to face the Buffalo Bandits.

There was tension as the fourth quarter got underway on Saturday night with an early Calgary goal cutting the Saskatchewan lead to 8-6, but the Rush took off and scored four consecutive goals.

Zach Greer led the way for the Rush, scoring four goals, while Ben McIntosh, Mark Matthews, and Robert Church pitched in with two goals each. Goaltender Aaron Bold continued his stellar play this season, stopping 39 of 48 shots.

The next home game is Saturday, June 4 at 7 p.m. at the SaskTel Centre.

The first game in that series will take place on May 28. According to the Rush website, season ticket holders will have their seats held until Thursday. Tickets for the public go on sale Tuesday.

This is the third finals appearance for the franchise, with the previous two coming while in Edmonton.
