M.L. White Sox drop season opener

May 26, 2016 | 7:26 AM

It wasn’t the start the Meadow Lake senior White Sox baseball team was looking for at last night’s season opener.

The Sox dropped the game 6-2 against the Mervin Flyers a team who had a rough start of their own dropping their first two games both by double digits.

The first inning seemed to spell an early end for the Sox as the team allowed four runs off walks.

Throughout the game, White Sox batters struck out six times while either popping or grounding out an additional 16 times and getting on base only 11 times.

A bright spot, the Sox matched their only homerun during the 2015 season after Sam Dawson hit a solo-homer during the fifth inning; the team’s first run of the game.

The White Sox picked things up in the seventh inning getting on base four times with Matt Bourassa scoring the team’s second and final run of the game.

The Sox will be looking to rebound on Sunday, May 29 as they welcome Unity and Wilkie for their home opener at Assman Field in the Lions Park.
