RCMP say phishing scams still concern for Sask. residents

May 29, 2016 | 3:14 PM

Despite their best efforts, RCMP once again remind Saskatchewan residents phishing scams are still an issue, and if something sounds too good to be true, then it most likely is.

Maidstone RCMP received yet another complaint about a widespread phone scam on Monday, May 23. The caller had falsley identified themselves as being with the CPP, and informed the victim they’d just won $25,000. However, to claim the prize $100 would have to be handed over.

Police advise residents all over the province not be to taken in by stories which seem true only on the surface, and to never send unknown persons any amount of money.

Other common scams include callers identifying themselves as being with government organizations such as the RCMP, CRA, or the City.
