M.L. senior White Sox win two in a row

May 30, 2016 | 7:29 AM

Hungry after dropping their season opener, the Meadow Lake senior White Sox baseball team beat Unity in a close game before handily taking care of the Wilkie Brewers in a pair of Sunday home openers.

Veteran pitcher, Craig Weran, took the mound in game one, striking out five batters while allowing Unity’s only two runs in the fourth inning.

Bats were swinging early for the Sox as both Jordan Oystrick and Kevin Gerwing scored in the first inning while second baseman Shawn Irwin scored the winning run in the bottom of the fourth.

The second game of Sunday’s double header at Assman Field had Meadow Lake down three to one after three innings versus the Wilkie Brewers.

Things picked up in the fourth as short-stop Davin Hildebrand scored his second run of the game with Jordan Oystrick and Sheldon Gregoire each crossing home plate, putting the Sox up by one.

The three runs scored would be all the Brewers would get off former NCAA division one pitcher Quincy Winkler as the Sox added four more runs in the sixth inning to win the game eight to three and improve to two and one on the season.

The senior Sox have a short break before their next game on Thursday, June 2 in Standard Hill and will be returning home for a game Saturday, June 4 at Assman Field.
