Council votes your lawn is not a parking spot

A unanimous decision by Meadow Lake city council now means vehicle owners won’t be able to park just anywhere. They’ll have to be in designated parking areas or on the street.

The decision came at the Monday, June 13 meeting after concerns were raised over what a designated parking space is and the nuisance of having vehicles parked in places such as on front lawns.

During the May 9 meeting, council directed city administration to amend the traffic bylaw to create a definition of a designated parking space but not to place any restrictions on the number of parking spaces per lot.

The bylaw states a designated parking space is a surfaced parking area, consisting of gravel, asphalt, concrete, brick pavers or other similar material and accessible from the street by an approved curb crossing.
