M.L. to receive new paratransit bus

Residents of Meadow Lake who use paratransit won’t have to deal with inconsistent service after city council approved a budget increase to purchase a second bus.

According to a request council received at its June 13 meeting, the service availability of the paratransit program has suffered in recent years by not having a second vehicle to use when the primary vehicle requires maintenance.

Diana Burton, city manager said typically the city runs two busses but the back-up is no longer useable. She added the operational bus is currently in the shop for maintenance meaning paratransit users haven’t any means of transportation.

Initially, the bus purchase was funded 75 per cent by the province, and the reminder split between the Kinsmen Club and the city.
