Pipe repairs to start this summer

Jun 14, 2016 | 5:00 PM

Some broken pipes in Meadow Lake’s west end will be getting repaired this summer but road repaving will have to wait for another year.

A recent analysis done on the storm sewer in the area of Cochin Ave. and Sixth Ave. W. showed joints in the pipes were separated in several areas causing water to leak into the ground causing issues with swelling in the road.

Last night, council approved the $1.2 million project and awarded it to JRT Excavating Ltd., a company based out of Shellbrook, Sask.

The contract does not include repaving of the road and council was advised those repairs would have to be budgeted for in future years.

Upon completion, the project will have removed the broken infrastructure with new pipes and proper bedding.

Work is scheduled over the summer to avoid any disruption to the three schools, Jonas Samson Junior High, Gateway Elementary and Carpenter High School.

No timeline is available yet as to exactly when work will start and how the project will affect homeowners parking.
