Jun 20, 2016 | 12:00 PM

Looking to build of the success of last weekend, the Meadow Lake White Sox senior baseball team split a pair of home games losing 3-2 but winning 8-4 last night.

The Sox welcomed the Border City Blue Jays to Assman Field on June 19 for the first tilt of Father’s Day games.

Quincy Winkler struck out 10 batters in the seven inning loss, while his defence stopped runners in scoring positions five times. Unfortunately, Sox runners were stranded in scoring positions during four different innings, including one bases-loaded.

Left fielder Alex Vidal and centre fielder Jordan Oystrick scored two runs for Meadow Lake as they dropped their first home game of the season, 3-2.

Hungry after the loss and looking to rebound, the White Sox found themselves up against the 8-1 Lloydminster Red Hawks.

Bats were swinging early as lead-off hitter Davin Hildebrand and third spot Kevin Gerwing each scored in the first inning. Gerwing added another run in the second inning along with Alex Vidal and Sheldon Gregoire. Up by one heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, Gregoire scored again with catcher Sam Dawson and second baseman Shawn Irwin chipping in to give the Sox the 8-4 lead.

Dawson, Irwin and first baseman Chris Ellis got on base again in the game but the 8-4 score stood as the Sox gave the Red Hawks only their second loss of the season while improving to 6-4 on the year.

Pitcher Craig Weran had the ball for Meadow Lake in the second game and improved his record to 4-0.

With the win, the Sox remain in first place in the Smith Division and will welcome the second place team, Standard Hill Lakers for a home tilt on Thursday, June 23 at Assman Field.
