M.L. MLA recuperating after busy legislature session

Jul 5, 2016 | 7:09 PM

It’s been a hectic month for Meadow Lake MLA Jeremy Harrison. Even though the first sessions of legislature wrapped last week on June 30, he remains busy as ever.

After being re-elected for a third term in the spring election, Harrison said it was pedal to the medal the day after the election for all 26 days.

“Election night I got a text from premier (saying) ‘I need to talk to you tomorrow in Regina.’ It’s been very hectic from that point on in preparing our legislative agenda and putting the budget together being a member of the treasury board,” Harrison said.

Aside from his treasury duties, Harrison is the Deputy House Leader, Minister of Jobs, Skills, Immigration, Training, Trade, Tourism Saskatchewan and Innovation, making for a busy schedule.

“In that 26 days we got a lot done. The budget was introduced and passed. 37 bills were introduced into assembly with eight passing, the rest due for passage in October,” Harrison said.

Harrison admitted it’s been challenging with the dipping price of oil and commodities but said the SaskParty is focused on keeping Saskatchewan’s economy strong.

While Harrison is enjoying a few days of holidays after the legislature session finished, he’s traveling to Toronto on Thursday, July 7 for ministerial related negotiations.
