A baseball player whose presence was felt on both sides of the Saskatchewan-Alberta border will soon be inducted into the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame.

Harvey Schmidt was an all-star player as he traversed across the two provinces over multiple decades with the Burstall Braves in the Sask-Alta League.

According to a Hall of Fame biography, Schmidt was born on July 27, 1939, in Empress, Alta. right next to the Saskatchewan-Alberta border. He played baseball while attending high school in Medicine Hat and joined the Burstall Braves when he was 15.

In 1970, Burstall won the Sask-Alta League Championship for the first time and Schmidt was instrumental with a .400 batting average. He also added two wins as a pitcher with the league leading 36 strikeouts.
