While lakes are a great weekend destination, sometimes staying home is just as nice. For those in Meadow Lake this weekend, there’s no shortage of things to do.

This weekend, on Saturday, Aug. 13, the second annual No Bull Barrel Racing makes a return to McWatters Arena; 17 km down Cabanda Rd.

Racers get two runs with their fastest time counting towards the guaranteed $1,000 prize jackpot. Races start at 1 p.m.

The Meadow Lake Kinsmen Club is hosting its second annual tournament, also on Aug. 13, with proceeds going to the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Registration for the nine-hole Texas Scramble tournament is at noon with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Golfers can compete for a Ford Focus and $10,000 in prizes.

After the round, registrants are treated to a steak and lobster dinner.

The Waterhen Lake Cree First Nation is hosting its fourth annual Powwow. There’ll be dancing, drumming, elder stories and modern twists on traditional foods like bannock burgers and Indian Tacos.
