M.L. Broncos and food bank get country music boost

Sep 26, 2016 | 12:22 PM

Country rock and roll filled the air in Meadow Lake to support local hockey and the food bank.

More than 500 people packed the Meadow Lake and District Arena on Saturday, Sept. 24 night to support the Meadow Lake Broncos and Door of Hope soup kitchen and food bank.

The show kicked off with Saskatchewan’s own Dirt Road Maniacs, followed by Alberta band Sweet Tequila.

Sweet Tequila band leader Randy Martin said everyone loved the show.

“Everybody seemed to appreciate the entertainers, the dancefloor was packed all evening, there was nothing but positive,” he said.

They were followed by main act Julian Austin, a country star from New Brunswick.

Roughly $2,000 was fundraised for the Broncos while the Door of Hope received grocery bags of food and a small cash donation. The amount wasn’t available by publishing.

Martin, who also owns production company Karizma Entertainment, said Meadow Lake has the population to potentially bring in larger shows.

“We work with everybody from Nitty Gritty Dirt Band to Alice Cooper so there’s tremendous opportunities,” he said. “We’re going to let the smoke clear then in a couple weeks, I’ll reach out to some people and see what they think about a spring show.”
