Raptors rest their big guns in 122-105 pre-season win over San Lorenzo
TORONTO — If Friday night was a test for the Toronto Raptors’ backups and newcomers, coach Dwane Casey gave them a failing grade.
Fred VanVleet scored 31 points to lead the Raptors in a 122-105 pre-season win over San Lorenzo de Almagro, taking another step closer to clinching his spot on the Raptors’ roster.
On the second night of back-to-back games, Casey decided to rest his big guns. But the young players got no slack from the coach, who lamented a defensive effort that he called “non-existent.”
“Our rotations, our tags, our defensive disposition,” said Casey. “We had no defensive focus tonight whatsoever. And that’s what I was looking for. So tonight I didn’t see a lot, so still everything is in flux.”
