Voting opens for Best of Saskatchewan Awards

Mar 14, 2017 | 12:40 PM

Is Roy Romanov or Brad Wall the best Saskatchewan premier ever? Is Moose Jaw or Nipawin the province’s cleanest community? What about the best lake in Saskatchewan — is it Candle Lake or Waskesiu? Is Weston Dressler or Ron Lancaster the best Rider of all time? If you have an opinion on any of these or hundreds of other topics, now is the time to have your say and celebrate the best this province has to offer.

SaskNOW.com has entered the voting stage for the Best of Saskatchewan Awards after thousands chimed in from Jan. 28 to Mar. 5 to nominate everything from the best hair stylist, to the best make-out place, to the best festival.

“We have been overwhelmed with the amount of nominations we received for our awards over the past several weeks,” Karl Johnson, publisher of saskNOW.com, said.

“It’s truly obvious that Saskatchewan residents have a great passion for the people, places and events that make this province so great,” Johnston added.

With all the nominations made over the past several weeks, only the top finalists have made it to the voting stage to be placed on the final ballot. Readers are encouraged to vote in each category, and to vote often. While you can only vote once in each category daily, readers are also encouraged to campaign friends and family to get the vote out for your favourite nominee. Categories (each with their own sub-category) include: Saskatchewan Goodness; Arts and Entertainment; Health, Beauty and Style; Sports and Recreation; Food and Drink; and Shopping and Services.

“Now that we are in the voting stage, it’s time for our readers to have their say for the best of the best. These awards are not decided by some committee of judges from elsewhere; they are decided by people who know from experience who or what is above and beyond in this province — so get the vote out and make sure your favourite wins!” Johnston said.

As an added incentive to vote, readers will be entered into a draw to win a weekend at the Elk Ridge Resort at Waskesiu Lake (hotel and $300 gift card) if they vote in at least 15 categories. In order to vote, simply go to SaskNOW.compaNOW.combattlefordsNOW.com, or meadowlakeNOW.com and have your say for the hundreds of final winners.

Voting closes on April 30, and the winners will be announced on May 3.
