Sox look to end 3 game skid against Jays

Jun 19, 2017 | 12:00 PM

After an unscheduled seven day break, the Meadow Lake Sox will be back in action tonight.

After opening the season with an impressive 4-1 record, the Sox have dropped their last three games to sit with a record of 4-4. Border City boasts a 6-1 record so far this young season.

The game plan has not changed for Meadow Lake coach Craig Weran who said the team needs to swing the bat better if they want success against the Jays.

“We need to hit the ball and play better defensively,” Weran said.” We’ve struggled in our last three games to put together hits and score runs which we were able to do the first five games of the season.”

The Sox have scored just seven runs in the last three contests despite having the third best team batting average in the league (.338) behind Border City (.355) and the Battleford Trappers (.360).

“We’ve actually pitched well in the last three games,” Weran added. “Our guys haven’t given up a ton of runs. We just haven’t scored enough runs to win a Senior Baseball League game so that is our focus tonight.”

Meadow Lake is on the road tonight against the Smithson Division leading Border City Blue Jays, in Lloydminster at 7:30 p.m.

Tonight’s game is a make-up contest from a game rained out last Wednesday night.
