Carpenter High grads celebrate a new chapter

Jun 29, 2017 | 5:38 PM

It was a big day for 95 students at Carpenter High School today, as their last 13 years of education came to a close.

The 2017 graduating class of CHS, along with their friends, family, school faculty, fellow classmates and dignitaries filled the gym at the school this afternoon.

MP Georgina Jolibois brought greetings on behalf of the Government of Canada, MLA Jeremy Harrison spoke on behalf of the province, and Glen Winkler gave well wishes from the Board of Education of the Northwest School Division.

Over $24,000 in scholarships and bursaries were given at this year’s ceremony from several companies, organizations and educational institutions.

Jessica Mirasty addressed all parents in attendance for the guidance they gave their children throughout the school careers.

“These 18 years sure flew by,” she said. “On behalf of the class of 2017, we give thanks to our parents for getting us to this day by encouraging us and supporting us.”

In her greetings to grandparents, Alexa Hunter said unconditional love allowed students to grow and feel supported over the years.

“Thank you for standing by our sides,” she said. The journey will be long ahead, but this is only the beginning of adventures to come, and knowing that you’ll be there for us is a comfort and a blessing.”

Lisa Timmer, a representative from the school community council said the graduates have exciting futures ahead.

“You get to create [that] for yourselves,” she said. “You have been privileged to grow up in a beautiful community with great schools and fabulous educators who have invested in you, as you have grown into the young adults that we are celebrating here today.”

Celebrations will continue this evening as the graduating students attend their final dance as high school students.
