Aug 8, 2017 | 12:25 PM

Among the 150 files the Meadow Lake RCMP have handled over the last week, there were a couple major occurrences over the weekend.

At approximately 3 p.m. on Friday August 4, members of the local detachment were dispatched to a burning truck in the Lion’s Park area, which was discovered to be stolen. The Police Dog Service tracked suspects from the scene. A theft and arson investigation is ongoing, and police are asking anyone with information to contact the Meadow Lake RCMP immediately.

Another incident during the evening hours of Sunday, August 6 resulted in the arrest of at 28-year-old man on Waterhen Lake First Nation.

In a media release, Sgt. Ryan How said an RCMP member attempted to arrest the male after receiving reports of a disturbance. The man resisted arrest and the officer had to use both pepper spray and a Taser to bring the suspect into custody, How said.

“The male resisted the officer and struck him several times,” How said, “The officer sustained minor injuries however no treatment was required. The male has been charged with assaulting a police officer, three counts of failing to comply with existing release conditions, and resisting arrest.”

How said while it was a busy long weekend in terms of service calls, it was a quiet one in regional parks.

“Reports from RCMP [members] patrolling the provincial park were positive, and they appreciate the public being safe and enjoying themselves,” he said.
