NWSD gearing up for new school year
With a new school year right around the corner, the board and staff of the Northwest School Division (NWSD) are getting back to business as usual.
At the last meeting, there were a few notable changes, namely when board chair and longtime school trustee Brian Gaboury announced his retirement. This meant two new board members were elected into different positions at today’s board meeting. Former vice chair Faith Graham took over the head spot, and Meadow Lake board member Barb Seymour took over as vice chair. Graham and Seymour will be in the positions on an interim basis until the NWSD’s organizational meeting in November.
“Brian put in a long time,” NWSD Director of Education Duane Hauk said. “In June he decided to retire after 29 years of being a trustee. He did so much for the students, the staff. [He’s] just an exceptional member.”
The board will be advertising Gaboury’s vacant position for Subdivision 3, which includes St. Walburg, Frenchman Butte and Paradise Hill. There will be a short nomination period, which will be open until Sept. 6. If there is more than one candidate, the election will take place Oct. 11.
