Premier met RCMP over controversial GTH land sale

Sep 6, 2017 | 5:08 PM

Premier Brad Wall met with RCMP investigators to discuss the controversial GTH land deal this summer.

It is an issue that doesn’t seem to go away for the retiring leader.

The government bought the land west of Regina in 2014 for what the provincial auditor said was an “overpriced” amount. The land changed hands repeatedly with the price escalating each time.

The matter has been in the hands of the RCMP for close to a year.

Wall met with investigators sometime in June or July in a meeting he described as “thorough.”

“I would say it was extensive and covered the whole issue, they clearly were very familiar with the project and had read not just the auditor’s report, but the coverage in the media,” Wall explained.

He did not have a lawyer with him during the meeting that did not take place at the Saskatchewan legislature.

When the RCMP wraps up its work, Wall is not ruling out any and all options to ensure the public have trust in the process, including a public inquiry.
