Arrest made in Waterhen School theft case

Oct 12, 2017 | 12:00 PM

After nearly two months of investigating a theft of $50,000 worth of stolen computer equipment at the Waterhen Lake School, police arrested a suspect.

On Tuesday, Oct. 10, a male was arrested and charged with breaking and entering, theft over $5,000, and mischief.

He appeared Meadow Lake court this morning and was released on several conditions, including a curfew from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. He cannot be near or at Waterhen Lake School and must report to a probation officer when scheduled.

In a media release, Sgt. Ryan How of the Meadow Lake RCMP credited a member of the Waterhen posting for their extensive investigation.

“Const. Andrew Begin worked with Waterhen community members on many occasions throughout this investigation to get this result,” How said. “He put in some very long hours dedicated to this event and it’s a model of what can be accomplished when an excellent working relationship between the police and the community exists.”

Fifty-four-year-old Bruce Richards will appear in court again on Monday, Nov. 20. The allegations against him have not been tested in court.
