M.L. bullrider third heading into PBR Finals in Saskatoon

Oct 18, 2017 | 4:39 PM

Meadow Lake’s Cody Coverchuk is ready to ride in Saskatoon this weekend as he takes part in the Professional Bullriders (PBR) Canada finals.

The season has been a rollercoaster for him, as he saw great success in the Bull Rider Canada circuit, winning seven out of eight events this summer. For the PBR, he won two events and currently sits third overall in the Canadian national standings.

“It’s been okay, but it could always be better,” he said. “The last couple weeks I’ve kind of let the pressure get to me. I’ve been bucked off, but there’s so many points available in Saskatoon. If you win there you could win Canada.”

Coverchuk said he has a busy few days with interviews and a vist to children in the hospital leading up to the events on Friday and Saturday. Between appointments, he added he plans to mentally prepare himself for the competition.

“We’ll ride one bull Friday, and then one on Saturday,” Coverchuck said. “The top 10 then go to the championship round on Saturday night. I like riding in Saskatchewan because people are always behind me. [It] will give me a bit more motivation to do better.”

He said his whole family will be at the events to cheer him on as well.

The event will begin Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at the SaskTel Centre.

Coverchuk will be part of Team Canada for the Global Cup in Edmonton from Nov. 9 to 11.
