Door of Hope nets around $24,000 for annual fundraiser
The staff at Meadow Lake’s food bank and soup kitchen is feeling positive after the annual fundraising banquet.
Unita Esau, the organization’s Executive Director said about 200 guests attended the event on Friday, Nov. 3 at the civic centre, and said while the $24,000 raised was down from last year’s $46,000 total, the amount of support for the silent auction helped out.
“Last year was our 25th anniversary, so it was a banner year,” Esau said. “Our silent auction sales were up very nicely. We still have some money coming in, we’re really grateful for the money we did get, we’ll put it to good use. Bottom line is, it’s money we didn’t have in the morning we certainly had at night, and we’re very appreciative.”
There were three speakers at the event, all representing community partners of the Door of Hope. Evan Haubrich, manager of Extra Foods, or of the sources where the Door of Hope gets daily donations of food from (the other two are Meadow Lake Co-op and 7-Eleven), Andrea Lavallee from Jubilee School, and Dave Thickett, Executive Director of Multiworks Corporation.
