Nov 8, 2017 | 1:40 PM

The male youth who caused Meadow Lake schools to launch into their hold and secure procedures last Thursday is facing several charges, including uttering threats, assault with a weapon, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

This came after police responded to reports of a male brandishing a knife at Gateway Elementary School at approximately 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2.

After appearing in court on Monday, Nov. 6, the case was adjourned to Tuesday, Nov. 14. The 14-year-old will remain in police custody until then. The suspect cannot be named due to provisions under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Sgt. Ryan How of the Meadow Lake RCMP said while no one was harmed during the incident, the assault charge can be laid on gestures, statements and intent alone.
