15-year-old accused in shooting death makes first court appearance

The 15-year-old male charged with manslaughter in the shooting death of Kegan McCallum last Monday appeared very briefly in court today. 

The accused, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, will return to Meadow Lake provincial court Dec. 4, at 9:30 a.m.

He was arrested last Thursday in North Battleford and charged with possession of a prohibited loaded firearm and public mischief in addition to manslaughter. According to police, McCallum and the accused were known to one another.

Seventeen-year-old McCallum was shot in a home on Meadow Lake’s west side on Monday, Nov. 13, and was later pronounced dead in hospital
