Committee formed for City and RM agreements

Jan 10, 2018 | 4:00 PM

In an effort to solidify and build communication on recently renewed fire and recreation agreements between the Rural Municipality and the City of Meadow Lake, a review committee has been struck.

In late 2017, the councils came to a multi-year agreement after only short term contracts were negotiated the previous year.  The review committee on fire will meet at least two times a year to review the agreements.

An administrator, the municipal leader, and council members will sit on the board, so the groups from each municipality can actively keep one another abreast of any updates, changes, and needs.

At their regular meeting on Monday, Jan. 8, Meadow Lake city council discussed the matter, and Mayor Gary Vidal said it is an important step.

“We structured it similarly because that was how the discussions with the reeve [Joe McKay] and I worked out,” he said. “And we felt that’s how we could best move things forward.”

Council voted unanimously to appoint Coun. Tom Harrison to the fire agreement committee, with Coun. Kim Chiverton as an alternate.

Vidal mentioned that the city would also like to form a similar type committee for the recreation agreement, and this committee would analyze certain user numbers, statistics and the like.

Coun. Conrad Read put his name forward for the recreation board, and Coun. Gary Winkler gave his name as the alternate.

Meeting dates for these committees have not yet been set.
