Loon Lake RCMP have confirmed the woman who was previously unaccounted for, following a house fire on Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation last weekend, has died.

The fire took place in the overnight hours of Sunday, Jan 7.

A number of people made it out of the house and were treated for minor injuries. At the time, they informed authorities that a 32-year-old woman was unaccounted for. Two days later, a body was discovered, and an autopsy performed on Wednesday, Jan. 10 confirmed the woman’s identity.

The woman’s name has not been released by police, and an investigation into the cause of the fatal fire is still ongoing.

Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation is approximately 60 kilometres west of Meadow Lake.
