Charges dropped in Beauval manslaughter case

Mar 16, 2018 | 11:34 AM

Crown has stayed a manslaughter charge for an accused man.

On March 31, 2017, police were called to a residence in Beauval where officers found 19-year-old Darren Buffin suffering from severe injuries. Paramedics transported Buffin to the hospital in Île-à-la-Crosse and later transferred him to Saskatoon. He died from his injuries on April 9.

Braydon McCallum, 21, was initially charged with assault, but following Buffin’s death the assault allegation was upgraded to manslaughter.

McCallum originally was scheduled to attend a preliminary hearing in February in Beauval, but the charges were stayed instead, according to Jennifer Graham, a senior communications consultant from the Ministry of Justice.
