Police deal with impaired drivers on St. Patrick’s weekend

Mar 19, 2018 | 12:00 PM

Meadow Lake RCMP were busy with impaired drivers over the weekend.

According to Sgt. Ryan How, police responded to several complaints, and were able to arrest three suspected impaired drivers within a 10-hour span one day.

“Charges are pending on all,” How said. “An additional driver was issued a provincial suspension for having a blood alcohol level over .04.”

How said local police are doing rural patrols on snowmobiles to ensure trail safety and riders’ sobriety levels.

“An added benefit of doing these patrols is being able to visit the rural areas that traditionally don’t see a police presence and allow members to learn the area and backroads,” How said. “Patrols will continue throughout the coming months as long as the trails are usable.”

He also said some rounds will be done using all-terrain vehicles, which will allow members to continue rural watches into the summer months.

“RCMP ask anyone in the rural areas experiencing or noticing any suspicious activity to contact the detachment so that patrols can be deployed appropriately,” How said.
