House destroyed in Moosomin grass fire, no injuries reported

May 1, 2018 | 10:00 AM

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of a grass fire which destroyed a vacant house on the Moosomin First Nation Saturday.

RCMP Sgt. Neil Tremblay told battlefordsNOW no one hurt in the fire, which broke out Saturday afternoon and was brought under control by local fire departments.

Tremblay said the destroyed building was condemned and was unoccupied during the fire.

Dry and windy conditions have forced several municipalities, including Meadow Lake, the Battlefords, Medstead and Flying Dust First Nation to issue a fire ban on open fires until further notice. The ban includes fire pits, barrel fires and fireworks of any kind and will run until conditions improve.
