M.L. man vying for a spot in Sask. Firefighters’ Calendar

Meadow Lake’s Lyndon Shryko is hoping to turn his passions for firefighting and exercise into a spot in a calendar for a good cause.

The two-and-a-half year veteran of the Meadow Lake Fire Department decided to put his name forward to appear in the Saskatchewan Firefighters’ Calendar this year, which serves as a fundraiser for the Jim Pattison Children’s’ Hospital Foundation.

Shryko said he saw one of the calendars at the fire hall and thought it would be a good idea to make it a personal goal, especially when he noticed a former colleague on one of the calendar’s pages.

“They selected 17 people to do this,” Shryko said. “I got set up with a prep coach for it. She did my meal plans and everything for me, and I’ve been going to the gym twice a day every day for the past couple months.”

The models are chosen through an online pre-voting process which is open until May 10. On the same evening, there will be a selection night event at Casino Regina, where judges will evaluate the top 17 participants, and there will be a live vote at the event as well. Only 12 of the group will make it into the calendar, and Shryko said he has high hopes he will be chosen.

“It’s a combination of the judges and the votes,” Shryko said. “If I get picked, later down the road we do a professional photoshoot.”

He said he’s received a great deal of positive feedback from family and friends locally and on social media, and he’s happy to be helping a cause which will benefit others.
