Up to 9,000 police officers on hand for G7 Summit in Quebec on June 8-9
QUEBEC — There will be between 8,000 and 9,000 police officers on hand to provide security for the G7 Summit, Quebec City’s police chief said Wednesday.
The police presence includes officers in Quebec City, where many international reporters will be stationed, as well as at the official site of the summit, the Manoir Richelieu hotel in La Malbaie, about 140 kilometres north.
Police chief Robert Pigeon said the security threat for the summit is considered “moderate.
“The level is normal, meaning there are people who want to express their opinion in public,” he said, referring to the protesters who are expected to gather in both Quebec City and La Malbaie.
