Summer memories wiped out as wildfire destroys cabins

The unofficial kick off to summer was instead a devastating time for families who saw decades of memories go up in smoke over the weekend.

Thirteen cabins in a subdivision on Flotten Lake, located inside Meadow Lake Provincial Park, were destroyed by a wildfire.

It was heartbreaking news for Andrea McDonald who spent many summers with her family at the cabin.

“I am in a state of shock,” she said in Facebook post.

“My grandfather built this cabin, my sister and I grew up at it, our kids have lived there every summer they’ve been alive. My heart is heavy for our Flotten Lake family.”

The blaze, known as the Tuff fire is the same one that forced the evacuation of over 700 residents from Waterhen First Nation last week.

The burned out cabins were captured by Meadow Lake resident Joe Villeneuve in a video posted on Facebook.
