Five impaired drivers arrested over long weekend in Meadow Lake

May 23, 2018 | 5:00 PM

Extra patrols over the long weekend resulted in five impaired driving charges in the Meadow Lake area.

Cpl. Erin Dunphy, of the Meadow Lake RCMP, said officers wanted focus on roads during the Victoria Day Long Weekend, as traffic tends to be busier.

“They conducted targeted traffic enforcement, looking for impaired drivers,” she said. “All individuals were released for future court dates.”

May 19 was National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day, Dunphy said. In Saskatchewan, impaired drivers’ licences are immediately suspended at the roadside and charges are laid. The suspension lasts as long as it takes for charges to be resolved in court, and there are often further penalties involved depending on various factors.
