Saskatoon police officers charged with assault

May 28, 2018 | 12:09 PM

Two Saskatoon police constables have been charged with assault following a provincial commission’s review of an arrest they made back in 2017.

Constables Cailin Link and Angela McDade reportedly pulled a man over on Nov. 7.

The traffic stop led to the man being arrested for obstruction. He later filed a formal complaint with the Saskatoon Police Service about his treatment.

A police media release issued  Monday morning stated no injuries were reported at the time of the arrest

Following the complaint, Saskatoon police referred the matter to Saskatchewan’s Public Complaints Commission, a five-person body of non-police members appointed by the province to investigate complaints against municipal police services.

The commission reportedly recommended charges after consulting with Crown prosecutors on the file.

Police announced Link and McDade will be confined to administrative duties pending the outcome of their court case.

Both officers are due in Saskatoon Provincial Court on June 28.
