Vandals target city’s potable water tank

Jun 14, 2018 | 1:22 PM

An alternate water source during Meadow Lake’s boil water advisory has been tampered with.

During the evening of Wednesday, June 13, individuals were seen pouring an unknown substance into the potable water tank at the parking lot of the aquatic centre, according to a statement from the City of Meadow Lake.

Officials will be testing the water to find out exactly what the substance was, the city said, and the water tank has been removed from the area.

“We will be re-disinfecting this tank today [Thurs.] and will be working on improving security for the water tank while still being able to make it available during non-staffed hours,” the statement read.

The city also advised any residents who used the tank between last night and this morning not to use that water.

“We recommend not using it,” the statement said. “This was an unfortunate act of vandalism and we will be working to rectify the situation as quickly as possible.”

The city said they will update residents via the local notices section of their website with information on the incident as it becomes available.

The city has sent information to the Meadow Lake RCMP detachment, and police said they will be investigating the matter.
