Local students learn about Meadow Lake OSB

Jun 19, 2018 | 12:00 PM

A Meadow Lake oriented strand board plant is connecting with local students early, to let them know about an opportunity for their future career paths.

Tolko’s Meadow Lake OSB Division’s youth recruitment program started last year, to work with students heading into post-secondary education in fields related to the OSB industry.

Youths from Lakeview and Jubilee Elementary Schools and Carpenter High School toured the facility this month to learn more about the local operation. Grade 4 classes were taught about the kinds of work that is done at the mill, made their own OSB, and had fun in the Tolko photo booth. Students from Carpenter High School participated in a luncheon and were taken on an in-depth tour of the mill where career opportunities were showcased.

Taiya Paylor, who grew up in Meadow Lake, is currently a Lakeland College student in Tolko’s youth recruitment program. She said she is thankful for the unique training.
