OSHAWA, Ont. — Police say a man was stabbed after intervening in a dispute over a dog in a community east of Toronto.

Durham regional police say they responded to a report of a stabbing in Oshawa, Ont., on Tuesday afternoon and found a man with stab wounds.

He was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say the victim was "an innocent bystander" who was stabbed by a man when he intervened in a dispute over a dog.

They say the accused fled the scene in a vehicle and was arrested later at a home in nearby Whitby, Ont.

Police say a 24-year-old Whitby man is charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and breach of recognizance.
