Rides, lights, games, and entertainment will be taking over the Meadow Lake arena's parking lot over the next three days.
Starting today, Canuck Amusements will be offering a midway until the late evening hours of July 14. The company has been bringing their fair to the city for last decade, and it’s a popular attraction according to Adriane Ouellette, administrator for the Meadow Lake and District Chamber of Commerce.
“They are excited to be here,” Ouellette said. “They think that Meadow Lake is the place to be this weekend. Last year was the highest attendance they’ve seen, and they’re hoping for the same this year. We’re lucky enough to be on their circuit.”
The chamber has been hosting the event for the last number of years, and Ouellette said the relationship with the owners and employees of Canuck Amusements is a strong one.
“They’re wonderful people and they hire a good team,” she said. “It’s a great service they provide to the community, families, and children, especially for the people who aren’t away at camp, the lake, or vacation.”
On Friday night the fireworks display is set to take place at Lion's Park, weather dependent. The show was originally delayed due to the threat of thunderstorms during the afternoon of July 1, and if the rainy weather continues they may have to be postponed a second time. Ouellette said weather conditions have to be optimal for the fireworks to run, both for the pyrotechnics to ignite properly and for the accompanying musical equipment. Dennis Baldinus, from General’s Bait and Tackle, will be running the show.
“It takes time to set it up, and there are so many people involved with it as well,” Ouellette said. “In the city limits you have to have the fire chief and staff present. They want to be able to give Meadow Lake a good show.”
