Loon Lake Golf clubhouse rebuild underway

Jul 18, 2018 | 12:00 PM

After a fire destroyed the pro-shop clubhouse at the Loon Lake Golf and Country Club in June 2017, the rebuilding process is now well underway.

The organization has been operating with temporary buildings ever since the fire broke out on June 24, 2017, and while attendance has not suffered, facility manager Heather Schneider said it will be nice to get into the new building. Construction should be complete this November, and ready for use at the beginning of next year’s golf season in May 2019. The tender was awarded to Bexson Construction from Lloydminster, and commenced early last week.

“We’re busy golfing and everybody’s been really good with the change and adapting to the different surroundings,” she said. “All in all everybody’s been excellent, and eager to see the new clubhouse go up now.”

The clubhouse will feature kitchen facilities upstairs, a covered deck on one side and an uncovered deck on the other to overlook the green. The pro-shop, as well as a meeting and a banquet room will be on the bottom floor, and the rooms will be available to rent for events catered by the kitchen.

Schneider said the staff and board have been getting a lot of positive feedback both from patrons and via social media channels.

“Everybody has been really cooperative and supportive with the devastation that happened,” Schneider said. “Now with the clubhouse going up, there’s a new vibe in the air, especially with the fact they’re watching it come up during this golf season.”
