Transmission structure fire leaves thousands without power Thursday

A transmission structure fire is being blamed for a widespread power outage that extends north of the Battlefords to areas such as Meadow Lake, Beauval, Buffalo Narrows and La Loche, leaving thousands without electricity today.

Local fire departments want to avoid scenes like this from happening in the area this spring and as a result areas such as Medstead, Meadow Lake and the Battlefords have all issued a fire ban until further notice.

Medstead joins Battlefords and Meadow Lake and issues fire ban

Dry and windy conditions have forced yet another regional municipality to issue a temporary fire ban in the area.

The RM of Medstead Fire Chief Gerald Boyd said outdoor grass fires, burning barrels, fire pits and fireworks are prohibited until further notice.

Traffic stop results in meth seizure and arrests

Two people from Big River First Nation face numerous drug trafficking and weapons charges after a traffic stop on Highway 55 near Debden netted RCMP what is believed to be methamphetamines (crystal meth) and a quantity of prescription pills.

SJHL to decide future of playoffs

The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League has a conference call planned today to determine how they will proceed with the remainder of this year's playoffs. The SJHL playoffs were postponed after the tragic accident involving the Humboldt Broncos Friday.
