Sex assault centre services extended to October; meetings with Justice Dept. continue

The line has been drawn in the sand by the Battlefords and Area Sexual Assault Centre (BASAC).

Environment Canada has issued a special weather advisory for the area which may result in the development of funnel clouds this afternoon.

The staff at CJNB/CJNS are prepared for today's CFL season opener as the Riders host Toronto at Mosiac Stadium. Brady Lang, Darian Rae, and Grant Schutte display their Rider pride getting ready for today's broadcast, which kicks off at 4 p.m. with the pre-game show.

It’s a day Riders Nation has had circled on their calendar since Nov. 19, when the Toronto Argonauts defeated the Roughriders 25-21 on their way to capturing the 105th Grey Cup.

Winner declared in battle of the food banks

It may have been a friendly competition between three area food banks but the real winners were those the agencies serve as more than $41,000 worth of food was collected during a recent Food Wars challenge.

Transmission structure fire leaves thousands without power Thursday

A transmission structure fire is being blamed for a widespread power outage that extends north of the Battlefords to areas such as Meadow Lake, Beauval, Buffalo Narrows and La Loche, leaving thousands without electricity today.

Local fire departments want to avoid scenes like this from happening in the area this spring and as a result areas such as Medstead, Meadow Lake and the Battlefords have all issued a fire ban until further notice.

Medstead joins Battlefords and Meadow Lake and issues fire ban

Dry and windy conditions have forced yet another regional municipality to issue a temporary fire ban in the area.

The RM of Medstead Fire Chief Gerald Boyd said outdoor grass fires, burning barrels, fire pits and fireworks are prohibited until further notice.
