Call for Applications: Editor of Windscript Volume 33

Call for applications for editor of Windscript Volume 33, the SWG’s magazine of high school writing, is now on! The successful candidate will have recent experience working with high school students along with the necessary editorial knowledge.

Editor responsibilities would be the following:

  • Reading, reviewing and selecting the pieces to be published, notifying the successful contributors, and working with them on any editing that may be necessary. Review and coordinate placement of the pieces for the magazine.
  • Provide the Publication Coordinator with the edited work along with its placement order within the publication.
  • Select winners and honourable mentions for the magazine awards.
  • Proofread the final layout.
  • Meet deadline of April 14 for final layout and proofing for launch for mid-May.
  • Be available to attend, assist, and host in the planning of the May launch in Regina.

The remuneration for this contract position is $1,000 payable in two installments: the first on completion of the selection process and the second on review of the final layout. The SWG will reimburse long distance telephone and courier charges related to this project and costs related to attending launches.

We welcome students to submit creative writing in any and all forms – poetry, prose, and creative non-fiction – for Windscript.

Please note that as in all writing competitions, these guidelines are very important and must be followed in order for submissions to be accepted.

Submission Guidelines:
Always keep a copy of your submitted work. Submissions will not be returned.

  1. Submit a maximum of six poems. Do not put more than one poem on a page. No more than two prose works may be submitted, and each piece must not exceed 1500 words.
  2. All work must be original from start to finish. Writers submitting plagiarized work will be banned from Windscript.
  3. Type each creative writing piece in 12pt, plain text font (such as Times New Roman, Arial, Courier), and double spaced.
  4. Number each page.
  5. Put the title on each submission and each page of the manuscript. Do not put your name on the poems or stories themselves as submissions are selected anonymously.
  6. Proofread your manuscript.
  7. In a cover letter, provide the following information:     
  • Your name, your home phone number, mailing address, and email
  • The genre of writing you are submitting (fiction, poetry, non-fiction)
  • The title(s) of your poems or stories
  • The name, address, and phone number of your school and teacher
  • A fifty-word biography written in the third person (if we publish your work, we will use this information, so be creative)

Deadline

Annually on February 15.
