Hockey world mourns death of popular Sea Dogs equipment manager David Kelly
SAINT JOHN, N.B. — Longtime Saint John Sea Dogs equipment manager David (DK) Kelly has died after a long battle with cancer. He was 40.
Kelly was the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s team head equipment manager from the team’s inception in 2005 before joining the front office in 2017. He spent another year as a senior adviser to hockey operations before retiring in 2018.
He was diagnosed with cancer in 2014 and became widely admired in the hockey world for his fight against the disease. In addition to carrying on his duties with the Sea Dogs, he spearheaded multiple charitable initiatives, including the selling of his popular Monkey Band-Aid apparel to raise funds for the Saint John Regional Hospital Oncology Centre.
