It’s always been a tradition for the Meadow Lake Lions Club to give when it comes to playgrounds according to Meadow Lake Lions Club President Nels Andersen.

On June 7, the Lions Club donated $10,000 to Jonas Samson Junior High (JSJH) to help pay for the new installation.

“It gives us great pleasure to donate and to help sponsor this playground equipment for the young people to enjoy in the most important time of their life,” Andersen said.

JSJH principal Jim Snodgrass said the playground will be a legacy project and has seen kids on the playground which he discouraged as construction is not yet finished.

“The kids are really pumped for the playground and it’s already getting rave reviews from the students,” Snodgrass said.

JSJH students and other volunteers helped Humboldt company 1 Stop Playgrounds with the installation of the playground which began on June 3.

The playground is currently fenced off while rubbing matting is put in. Half of the matting is in place so far but rain has moved work on the playground into next week.

After the matting is completed, Snodgrass said there will be some finishing touches and the playground will be ready for the kids to use by the summer.

JSJH will be changing from a junior high to a middle school in September and the school has been raising money for the playground through several events including a kids’ carnival.
