M.L. Sox put up strong defence but lose to Battleford Trappers

A strong early pitching game and a home-run at Tuesday’s game were the highlights for the Meadow Lake Sr. White Sox team.

After putting up a good defensive battle throughout the game the Sox ultimately lost 9-2 to the Battleford Trappers on June 11. This puts the Sox at five wins and five losses for the season.

First baseman Owen Dancy said their defence was great with Nathan Dancy pitching for seven innings but their offence was lacking.

“Our bats were hit and miss and Nathan did a good job last night,” Dancy said. “If he wasn’t on his game it could have been a lot worse.”

The Sox also called up to midget players, Jake Willick and Steven Stremick, for their first look at the field. Dancy said they had one of their best turnouts this season with a lot of young fans enjoying the game and the weather was great.

The team has three games left in the season with the next game against the Lloydminster Twins in Meadow Lake on June 18. Dancy said the team is feeling OK going into their next game.

“It’s going to be tough,” Dancy said. “We need to get two out of three wins [in the next set of games] but if we play right we can give them a run for their money.”

The Sox will end their regular season with a double header against the Macklin Lakers and the North Battleford Midgets June 23.
